On Oct 4
CDPR announced the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 code named Project Orion. It will be developed in a new studio within Boston, MA in the USA near their existing studio Molasses Flood. No significant details have been revealed (let's be honest this early in the game they only have a rough outline for a story at this point so nothing to really give publicly) aside from it will be built on the Unreal 5 engine. As they are retiring their own custom engine they have used for the
Witcher 3 and CP 2077.
What was also revealed is Head Quest Designer Paweł Sasko from CP 2077 will be leading the sequel and new Boston studio. As
the Forbes article about this announcement stated he has been the leading face of 2077 and its come back. As you may recall while finically successful, critically it was a very rough launch. While on PC it had bugs but few game breaking, on last gen consoles it was mostly unplayable. And their pre-launch comments of how well it was playing on last gen came back to haunt them, as the internet mobs tend to do. However in this case it is hard to not claim it was justified as they outright were deceptive.
However in the past 2 years they have stuck with it delivering patch after patch with a sprinkling of free DLC and new content in the form of new weapons, locations and missions. At this point it is a solid experience on PC and current gen consoles, and plays reasonably well on last gen.
They also announced the only full expansion for 2077, releasing first half of next year, will only be released for PC and current gen consoles.
